Distribution: Burdock can be found throughout the U.S., with the exception of a few states along the southern boarder.
Soil Type: Wide range from sandy clay to moist loam. Most Burdock prefer nitrogen-rich soil.
This plant is native Pennsylvania
First-year roots and second-year stems can be cooked by boiling for about 20 minutes, then season to taste.
The barbs on the burs of burdock were the inspiration for Velcro, invented in the early 1940s by Swiss inventor George De Mestral.
